Two Indian workers were killed and a third was kidnapped during the DOSSO terrorist attack in Niger, the Indian embassy said in Niamey.
“During a nasty terrorist attack on July 15 in the Niger Dosso region, two Indian nationals tragically lost their lives and one was kidnapped,” the embassy said on Friday in a statement on social media platform.
According to local media reports, unidentified gunmen attacked an army unit that guarded the construction site in DOSSO, about 130 kilometers from the capital of Niamey.
The Indian Embassy also stated that it cooperates with local authorities to repatriate the deadly remains of those killed and also works on “ensuring safe release” of Indian kidnapping.
The mission also recommended the Indians in the West African nation to remain vigilant.
Ranji Kumar, the head of the Bokaro Jharkhand district, said on Saturday there was an effort to bring the body of a migrating worker from Jharkhand back.
Ganesh Karmali (39), resident of the village of Karipani in the Bokaro district, was between the two Indians killed in the cross connection between the police and the terrorists on July 15 in the DOSSO area.
Ranji Kumar said that the process of bringing his body was launched through the State Migrant Control room.
“The brother -in -law, who is also employed in Niger, said that the Karmali body was handed over to the Indian embassy. According to information, formalities are completed before sending deadly remains,” Kumar PTI said.
Biking to foreign workers in Niger
Foreign workers are increasingly becoming the goals of armed groups in Niger, a West African country.
Several of them were kidnapped this year, including Austrian woman who lived in Niger as an assistant worker for more than 20 years, a Swiss woman confiscated from her house in April and five Indian workers, also in April.
For many years, Niger has fought the uprising of the jihad associated with Al-Qaeda and a group of Islamic states.
According to an armed conflict and event project, June was one of the deadliest months in the country, because the supported IS fighters launched a large offensive across the regions of Tillaberi and DOSSO and killed more than 100 civilians in what it meant a return to mass atrocities in rural areas.
