
There are 2,200 higher primary and secondary schools without permanent physical education teachers.
The highest number of such schools is in Ernacula – 305. Kottayam and Alappuzha follow 287 and 236 schools. Kozhikode has the smallest number of schools without permanent sports teachers – five. According to data from the Ministry of Education, Thrissur has 10 such schools.
Only 281 physical education teachers work as permanent staff at higher primary schools, while there are 1,508 permanent teachers at secondary schools.
There are only 86 physical education teachers in government schools in permanent positions among elementary schools; The remaining 195 is in schools.
The highest number is in Malappuram – 39 in government schools and 79 in schools.
Pathanamthitta and Kottayam do not have teachers in the government or in the auxiliary categories at primary schools. Idukki and Kannur have no one in government schools, but one and three teachers in schools.
Secondary schools contained better
The numbers are better in the secondary school category. There are 1,508 permanent sports teachers at secondary schools. Of these, 572 are employed in government schools and 936 in auxiliary institutions.
Malappuram has the highest number of teachers in government schools in 97 and Ernakula in auxiliary schools with 135. Kottayam has at least among government schools only on two and Wayanad between 20.
Minister of General Education V. Sivankutty in answering questions by P. Ubaidully, MLA, in the Assembly, stated that in schools without permanent physical education teachers were used services of teachers appointed daily wages.
Regarding the demand of physical education teachers to change the ratio of students from 1: 500 to 1: 300, the Minister said that in this context the meeting of 26 July was convened and further steps were taking place.
Rejiga ratio
The meeting, chaired by the Minister, reached the decision to reiterate 1: 300 to protect teachers who lost their contributions. It was also decided to seek the consent of the main minister.
However, physical education teachers strive to change the ratio through amendment in the rules for education of Keraral (KER).
In his response, the Minister noted that permanent physical education teachers were appointed according to the criteria referred to in clause 6 (4), Chapter 23. 53 of schools that meet the criteria do not have physical education teachers.
Interestingly, physical and health is part of a new curriculum for students from preschool to higher secondary. In pre -school and lower basic classes, physical education is part of integrated education. Students in class to class X have been provided books on physical and health activities.
Higher secondary classes have two periods of physical education. During these two periods, the necessary grids of syllabuses in the field of physical and health were prepared for the transaction, the Minister said in response to Mathew Kuzhalnadan, MLA.
