18-storey apartment complex building for demolition

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has allowed the demolition of an 18-storey wing of a tower in a residential complex in southeast Bengaluru after it leaned.

Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao on Thursday convened a meeting with Bengaluru South City Corporation officials after a private builder sought permission for demolition. Mr. Rao told The Hindu that there was no major tilting but only a small problem following which the builder sought permission. Permission has now been granted, he said.

According to GBA sources, the wing slated for demolition is one of the tower’s five wings. There are 49 residential units in the wing, none of which have yet been occupied. The builder has been ordered to take all security measures at the site, although no residential units are occupied.
