The police said that a 39 -year -old woman, a German national, was arrested on the spot. She was left without resistance. The police believed after watching the videos that she acted herself. They secured a knife.
“So far, we have no evidence that a woman could deal with political motivation,” said Hamburg police spokesman Florian Abbenseth. “Rather, we have a finding based on what we are now investigating, in particular, whether it could be in a state of mental emergency.”
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said in a contribution to the social media platform that the news from Hamburg was “shocking”.
“My thoughts are with victims and their families,” he said.
