On Sunday (April 13, 2025), seventeen companies of the central armed police forces (CAPF) were deployed in the Western Bengal district in the Western Bengali (CAPF) after violent protests against the WAQF law (amendment), which required three lives on Saturday. More than 150 people were arrested and one person who suffered a bullet injury was admitted to a state healthcare facility, the police said.
Police CEO, West Bengal, Rajeev Kumar organized a meeting with higher police officials in Murshidabad. He said the situation was “very under control”. Police Superintendent Yangipur Ananda Roy appealed to people so that they do not believe in reputation and approach the police if they need an explanation. SP said that 155 people have so far been arrested in connection with violence.
Meanwhile, 23 high -ranking officers from state police and other agencies were distributed in the district affected by violence. Karni Singh Shekhawat, General Police Inspector, Border Security Force, was among those present in the district. Nine BSF companies have been moved to areas of destroyed disputes.
Eighteen police workers were also injured by violence that broke out in the 12th April district.
Meanwhile, Isha Khan Chowdhury, a Congress of Congress from Malda Dakshin Lok Sabha, under which the areas of violence in the district of Murshidabad fall.
Almost the entire leadership of the BJP state unit hit Calcutta Street to protest against violence. State President BJP Sukant Majumdar claimed that violence was “conspiracy of radical clothing, such as the population front of India (PFI) and the Islamic Student Movement in India (Simi)”. MP BJP Jyotirmoy Singh Mahatat wrote to the Minister of the Union Amit Shah, who urged the center to declare selected border districts of West Bengal as a “disturbed area”.
Part of the BJP leaders also claimed that hundreds of Hindus from Dhuliana in Murshidabad were forced to hide across the river in Baishnabnagar in the neighboring Maldy district. “I call on the central paramilitary forces deployed in the district, the state police and the district administration to ensure the safe return of these displaced hinds and protect their lives,” said the opposition leader ADHIKARI in a social media contribution.
Meanwhile, the Congress of the Trinamool Congress accused BJP of using false photographs to develop municipal tension in Murshidabad. The leader of Trinamool Kunal Ghosh gave concrete examples and stressed that BJP leaders used social media’s photographs of violence in other places in the country.
“BJP is spreading misinformation and attributes some photos of Murshidabad’s unrest, while reality is far from it. For example, they use photos from CAA protests in Lucknow, as a photo from Murshidabad. Trinamool’s leader also claimed that BJP leaders like Majumdar and Arjun Singh threaten violence.
“The Bengal government is clear that no one will be allowed to take the law into their hands and the violence will be fulfilled with a strict punishment, regardless of the community or religious identity of the perpetrators,” said Trinamool Rajya Sabha Sagarika Ghos.
