One measles death, 161 confirmed cases and 116 suspected cases have been reported in Kozhikode district so far this year.

Health Ministry officials said at a control meeting on Wednesday (October 14, 2026) that the disease is spreading mainly among unvaccinated people. They said that in the coming days, preventive measures will be strengthened and vaccination coverage will be expanded with the help of other ministries.

They pointed out that measles vaccination is available at all government health centres. Two doses of measles-rubella vaccine given between 9 and 12 months and between 16 and 24 months are an effective preventive measure. If children miss vaccinations, they can receive injections up to the age of five.

LT Saritha Kumari, District Medical Officer, presented the report at the meeting chaired by Assistant Collector Malavika G. Nair.
