The Parvatipuram-Manyam district administration has prioritized tourism by publicizing 16 waterfalls in the hilly areas which were previously inaccessible due to their geographical disadvantage.
Collector N. Prabhakar Reddy and Joint Collector C. Yaswanth Kumar Reddy took the support of local tribal people to create access roads and promote the falls. They have also introduced cycle taxis so that the tribals can take tourists to the waterfall sites.
Located in the remote Makkuva mandal, Loddha Falls now features a pole arch made of bamboo wood which is a special attraction. Monagali Falls in Tadikonda village in Gummalakshmipuram mandal attracts tourists from nearby Odisha. Waterfalls in Seethampeta, Kurupam, Salur and other areas are the most sought after destinations for tourists from the districts.
Talking to The Hindu, the Collector said that the promotion of these falls will ensure a decent livelihood for the local tribals. “Nature protection is also a top priority. Tourists are not allowed to use plastic bottles, cups and other materials. Safety in these places is also a priority.” Mr. Yaswanth Kumar Reddy predicts that the number of tourists will increase significantly during Christmas and Sankranti.
