The 16 minor students from Bihar, who were rescued by the police from Palakkad railway station on January 12 without any valid documents with a charitable educational institution allegedly facilitating their journey to Kerala, have been shifted to the Children’s Welfare Home in Kozhikode district.
There were a total of 21 students in the rescued group, five of whom were sent with their parents.
After preliminary findings that the students were allegedly brought to the Kozhikode-based institution, the District Collector of the Child Welfare Board ordered an inquiry to check the registration and other whereabouts of the firm. This would be done under the guidance of the District Child Protection Officer.
According to police sources, the students who were brought to Palakkad by train were from Bihar’s Kishanganj district. They were all boys between the ages of 10 and 13.
Last year too, there were attempts to bring 12 girl students to Ernakulam who were rescued with the timely support of the police.
