156 MBBS students awarded degrees at Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences Graduation

Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Kalaburagi, conducted its sixth graduation on Saturday and awarded MBBS degrees to 156 students from the 2020 batch.

Minister for Medical Education, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Sharan Prakash Patil, who was the chief guest, could not attend the event due to an official meeting in Bengaluru. However, he connected virtually to reach out to graduating doctors.

Also conveying her best wishes to the students was Sujata Rathod, Director, Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Bengaluru, who is currently on an official visit to the UK. Emeritus Professor PS Shankar participated as the guest of honor and urged the graduates to strive for great success in their lives.

The event was presided over by Umesh SR, Dean and Director, GIMS. In his presidential address, he outlined the various academic achievements of GIMS students and detailed the ongoing development projects within the institution. He highlighted the critical importance of evolving technologies in healthcare and discussed the necessary steps young doctors need to take to overcome the current challenges.

The ceremony was attended by Ajaykumar, Principal, Shivakumar CR, Medical Superintendent, Sandeep VH along with four Deputy Medical Superintendents, Heads of various Departments (HODs), teaching staff, students and their parents.

The institution recognized industry leaders across 14 separate departments. Shrushti S. Shastri emerged as the star of this batch, securing the top rank in seven subjects as well as three academic stages and eventually winning the overall best player of the batch award.

Additionally, Mehreen Naaz Zerdi was awarded for securing first position in the final year exams. To recognize excellence in the ENT department, a special cash prize of ₹10,000 was presented to the top performing student in the subject, instituted in memory of Raghavendra Melkundi.
