13 bus stations in Telangana to turn integrated transit hubs; to double as shopping, gaming and entertainment spaces

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) on Wednesday announced plans to convert bus stations into entertainment hubs, which are likely to house multiplexes as well.

According to the state transport company, the 13 high-tech bus stations will function as an integrated transit bus station. According to this model, the station will not only be a transport hub, but also connect businesses, entertainment and other transport systems.

According to TGSRTC, the facilities of these stations would resemble an airport. “This ambitious project, conceived in collaboration with the Government of Telangana and the innovative vision of TGSRTC Managing Director Y. Nagi Reddy, has already received official approval from the Government and the Department of Transport,” TGSRTC said.

The company said rail access would be available immediately as passengers disembarked from the buses. The complex will also include commercial complexes and shopping centers. Game zones. food courts and entertainment areas will also be available.

The facilities will be available at bus stations in Nagarkurnool, Regonda, Huzurnagar, Kodad, Kodangal, Kosgi, Maddur, Kesamudram, Husnabad, Mulugu, Madhira, Nalgonda and Kothagudem.

This RTC decision will not only facilitate the transportation of passengers but will also transform the travel hubs across the state with modern amenities and a fresh, modern look. Construction work on these model bus stations will start soon.

Interestingly, revitalizing TGSRTC and trying to bring in revenue through methods other than ticketing has been in the works for about a decade. In 2018, the then government decided to assess the feasibility of multiplexes or theaters and malls on TGSRTC land. Much earlier, in 2016, the transport giant toyed with the idea of ​​having mini-theatres in several bus depots on a build-operate-transfer basis.
