As counting of votes for the elections to 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations begins on Friday, Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy said on Thursday that elaborate security measures have been put in place across the state to ensure a peaceful process.
A total of 123 enumeration centers have been set up with around 12,000 policemen deployed, backed by armed forces and rapid response teams to maintain law and order. The DGP said that all the counting centers are under round-the-clock CCTV surveillance and the situation will be monitored on real time from the state police command and control center through webcast.
Strict entry control measures were in place at all locations. The routes leading to the counting centers are regulated and only those with valid IDs will be allowed to enter and thorough security checks are in place, he said.
Prohibitions have been imposed near the counting centers in accordance with relevant legal provisions to avoid any untoward incident. As per Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), gathering of large number of people within 200 meters of counting centers and carrying weapons are prohibited. The DGP said local police officers have been instructed to take appropriate action against any violation.
The DGP appealed for cooperation and appealed to political parties, candidates and citizens to support the police machinery in the peaceful and successful completion of the enumeration process.
