All Super League Indian clubs, with the exception of Odisha FC, agreed to participate in the Super Cup football tournament, starting next month, according to the National Federation official.
The Super Cup, which usually happens at the end of the season, will take place at the beginning of this time to give the club enough matches due to the delayed Isl season. The organizers of the FSDL have been suspended by ISL, but will probably start in December.
“In addition to ODISH FC, all other 12 Isl clubs agreed to attend the Super Cup. We asked them again to confirm in a few days. Then we will finish the tournament,” AFF official said on Friday on condition of anonymity.
The 16-team tournament will also have at least three sides from I-League. The number of I-League pages will increase if an Isl team pulls out.
AIFF at the beginning of this week decided to organize a Super Cup from 25 to 22 November a gradual way.
We will also learn that the AIFF told the clubs that the winning team of the Super Cup will also be awarded the Playoff AFC Champions League 2 for the 2026-27 season.
However, such a team will have to own the Premier 1 license according to the Indian Club license regulations relevant to the 2026-27 season.
FC Goa got into the playoffs of ACL 2-A subsequently in the group phase-in this season as the Super Cup 2024-25 champion. However, several clubs asked the AIFF to clean the air on this matter, and the National Federation did it.
The AIFF also said that if the Indian club participating in the playoffs of ACL 2 is unable to ensure qualifications, it automatically enters the AFC Challenge League (ACGL) group phase, the third level of the continent club competition (one level below ACL 2).
This mechanism will ensure the ongoing continental participation in Indian clubs, even in the case of exit from the playoffs ACL 2.
