On Sunday, there were special operations performed in the Mayiladuthurai district for arresting 12 individuals involved in the illegal lottery sales. The operation was performed by five special teams created under the supervision of Inspector R. Selvi of Sirkazhi All Women Police Station.
The police confiscated 1 1.42 Lakh in cash, nine mobile phones and a large number of lottery tickets during raids. They were arrested as Pandian, Ramadas, Murugan, Jameel Badsha, Mani, Muthu, Sundaramurty, Sigamans, Vaithianathan, Muthukumar, Sathiyamoorty and Selvam Vaithiyanathasamy, all from different parts of the district. The defendants were made in court and ceded in judicial custody.
According to police sources, 26 cases related to illegal sale of lotteries with a total of 30 arrested individuals have been registered in the district since the beginning of the year. The seizures still include 1.55 ₹ Lakh in cash and 10 mobile phones.
