A total of 110 men have been consulted in the last fortnight as part of a renewed drive on women’s safety by the Rachakonda police, which also received 135 harassment complaints in the same period.
Of the 135 complaints, 34 related to harassment over phone calls, 48 related to social media and 53 related to direct incidents, according to DCP Women Safety T. Usharani. Counseling for 74 participating adults and 36 minors took place at LB Nagar Women Safety Office.
Rachakonda Commissioner of Police G. Sudheer Babu said there would be no leniency for these disturbing women and urged the complainants to approach the police without fear.
She Teams operated in plainclothes at bus stops, railway and metro stations, schools, colleges, markets and other crowded places, conducting decoys to identify men who stalk or harass women. Officials said those caught are being presented to the court with evidence and consultations are held in the presence of their parents.
Recent actions have included the booking of an Uber car driver accused of assaulting passengers, the arrest of a man for harassing a woman on social media and the detention of another who allegedly made repeated calls from different numbers. At Thukkuguda Park, the Maheshwaram She team immediately responded to the reports of the disturbance, arrested the youths involved and registered a case.
She teams also conducted 49 awareness programs between the 1st and 15th of this month, educating nearly 7,500 people on women’s rights, laws and safety measures. Dive checks on metro trains led to eight men being found in the women’s compartment, after which metro officials imposed fines.
