Chittoor Urban police rescued a ten-year-old girl from home in a distressed condition after she was allegedly neglected by her father and was admitted to a rehabilitation center on Wednesday.
The girl and her 12-year-old brother along with their father live in a rented section in Ramnagara Colony here. The children’s mother works in Kuwait and regularly sends money home for their education and nutrition. However, their alcoholic father allegedly neglected the two. He often left them for days at a time, allegedly subjecting them to starvation and trauma.
On Tuesday evening, the father did not return home, prompting the anxious son to make repeated phone calls. When his sibling cried uncontrollably and fell unconscious, the boy alerted the police with the help of those around him.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Dudi dispatched a special team from the women police station which reached the spot and rescued the girl. After providing first aid and feeding, the police contacted the father, who responded incoherently, said to be under the influence of alcohol.
The boy is temporarily staying with a family friend. After consulting the girl’s mother and neighbors, the police arranged for the girl’s rehabilitation at Hope Children’s School in Pullaiahgaripalle in Yadamarri mandal, a few kilometers from Chittoor.
