10 government mortuaries in TN will be strengthened at a cost of ₹8 crore
The Tamil Nadu government has agreed to construct and upgrade mortuaries in 10 government hospitals and government medical college hospitals across the state. Funds of ₹8.85 crore have been sanctioned for the works.
According to a recently issued order, the Government of India has sanctioned ₹16.2 crore under the National Health Mission (NHM) management records for the period 2024-2026 to strengthen mortuaries in Government Medical College Hospitals and Government Hospitals in the state. It was also approved by the 46th Executive Committee of Tamil Nadu State Medical Society.
Based on this, the Director of Mission, NHM-Tamil Nadu sent proposals for strengthening mortuaries in the following institutions — Headquarters Hospital, Pennagaram, Dharmapuri; Government Headquarters Hospital, Gudalur, Nilgiris; Government Hospital, Arakkonam, Vellore; Government Erode Medical College and Hospital; Government Medical College and Hospital, Villupuram; Government Medical College Hospital, Thoothukudi; Government Medical College Hospital, Tirunelveli; Raja Mirásdar Government Hospital, Government Medical College, Thanjavur; Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital, Tiruchi; and Government Hospital, Srivaikundam, Thoothukudi.
Accordingly, ₹65 lakh to ₹70 lakh each was allocated for government hospitals and main hospitals and ₹90 lakh to ₹1.50 crore each was allocated for government medical college hospitals.
