
Delhi police arrested three cyber criminals from Jamtary, Jharkhand, for cheating a man from Delhi £10.8 lakh. The defendant presented as officials of bank credit cards to deceive the victims.
KC Barthwal victim received a fake call about a fake debit on his account. To grab the culprits, the police masked in local tribal clothing and kept them under supervision.
The defendants, Mujaffar Jilani, Aftab Ansari and MD IQBal Raza, all in the mid -20, are part of a larger network of cyber fraud.
Ansari was appointed Mastermind for the fraud operation. He used game wallets to move stolen money and his collaborator Jilani also received funds through these wallets.
Raza, 24, processed the technical side by spreading false applications and theft of OTP and SMS from the victims phones. He also helped to transfer money and ensure cash withdrawals.
The case was announced after Barthwal got 5th April £588.82 was incorrectly deducted from its credit card. This led to detection of fraud and arrest.
“Jamtara has acquired over the years as a center of organized cyber fraud in India. In a statement we have received five mobile phones, six SIM cards and a debit card reportedly used in a statement.
“The caller then pushed the victim to either activate or block his credit card by clicking on the link sent to his phone. The link led to the phishing site reminiscent of the official bank portal.
How gang planned fraud
The gang used fake calls, phishing links and a fake mobile app to steal its credit and bank details. They also approached his phone, stole OTP, and even approached his internet banking by pretending to verify his account.
Then they transferred the money to digital wallets and game applications and later downloaded cash using several fake accounts. The police followed them using technical supervision.
They were arrested after a two -day operation. The accused were brought to Delhi for questioning.
“After a two -day surgery of the defendant police, all three were brought to Delhi during transformation and interrogated,” DCP said.
