Three associations of alcoholic beverage companies (alcobev) have appealed to the Telangana government to expeditiously clear long-pending payments, pointing out that such delays undermine the state’s credibility in attracting investment.
Outstanding dues owed by Telangana State Beverages Corporation (TGBCL) to alcobev’s suppliers have crossed ₹3,900 crore, with a significant portion pending for over a year (₹900 crore). Such a situation persists even though excise revenue has increased more than fourfold in the last decade – from around ₹9,000 crore in 2014 to nearly ₹38,000 crore in 2023-24. The state has also collected over ₹3,000 crore in October 2025 through application fees for liquor retail licences. Sales turnover for December 2025 was also at an all-time high, Brewers Association of India (BAI), Wine and Spirits Association of India (ISWAI) and Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC) said in a joint statement.
As Telangana prepares to showcase itself as a preferred investment destination at the upcoming WEF in Davos, it is important that the state government lives up to existing contractual obligations to become a trusted business partner. A delay in payments of this magnitude, they say, weakens the credibility and image of the state to attract investment, the association said.
Timely settlement of outstanding payments would boost confidence among existing and potential investors and enhance Telangana’s reputation as a reliable place to do business, the association said.
