₹ 6,000 crore Mahadev Betting App case: CBI arrests ‘king’ Abhishek Kumar at Hyderabad airport after returning from Dubai | Today’s news
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Abhishek Kumar, one of the ringleaders and a wanted accused in the alleged ₹6000 Crore Mahadev Online Betting App Scam. Abhishek, who was on the run, was arrested immediately after his arrival from Dubai at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, news agency ANI reported.
According to an official report quoted by news agency ANI, the investigation so far has revealed the active role of Abhishek Kumar in running online betting and gambling operations under Mahadev Book, coordinating panels, collecting funds and acquiring real estate in Dubai from ill-gotten gains from betting and gambling.
“The seized material prima facie shows his active role in running the Mahadev betting app and he was closely cooperating with the other main accused namely Saurabh Chandrakar and Shubham Soni,” the CBI statement quoted by news agency PTI said.
Abhishek Kumar was produced before a local court in Hyderabad after his arrest and the CBI was granted three days of transit custody, PTI reported.
What is Mahadev Betting App Case?
The case of Mahadev Betting App is huge ₹6000 crore financial scandal involving an illegal online gambling and betting syndicate operating out of Dubai.
Also known as Mahadev Online Book (MOB), Mahadev App is primarily promoted by two Chhattisgarh-based runaway entrepreneurs – Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal. She allegedly generated the proceeds of crime ₹80,000 crore as of 2019.
The Government of Chhattisgarh has transferred 13 FIRs registered at various police stations in Chhattisgarh regarding Mahadev Betting App to the CBI, which has been taken over by the CBI. The CBI has so far filed eight charge sheets against 100 accused persons in the matter, including the main promoters of the Mahadev Betting App, panel operators, hawala operators and public servants of the Chhattisgarh government.
Further investigation is on to track down other absconding accused, the CBI said.
The CBI remains determined to bring to justice all those involved in illegal betting operations.
“Efforts are underway to return the main promoters of betting app Mahadev to India to face trial. So far, seven Red Corner Notices and two extradition notices have been issued and extradition proceedings are underway against the two accused,” the statement said.
The CBI remains committed to bringing to justice all those involved in illegal betting operations and identifying and tracing the proceeds of crime generated through them, it said (with agency inputs)
